Day Seven – God Rested

On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work.
Genesis 2:2

It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat;for God gives rest to his loved ones.
Psalm 127:2

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
Proverbs 3:24

Bible:

Say:  “When God had finished making everything, He rested. The Bible says, “On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work.”  God took a rest from His work.  He set an example for us and He planned for us to rest also.  God says it is not good to work from early morning until late at night; He wants to give us rest (Psalm 127:2).  God will keep us safe while we lie down and sleep peacefully (Psalm 4:8).  Since we are made by Him, we can trust God to take care of us, His creation, all day as we work or play and all night as we sleep.”

Activities:

Rest 🙂

Take all the pdf pictures or the pictures you made for each day and make into a Creation book .  OR cut the circles out, cover in plastic and use as a teaching aid to review what God made and in what order.

Song: Sing the following words to God Made the Whole World by His Hands

God made the whole world in six days
He made the whole wide world in six days
God saw all He had made and said ‘It is good’
Then the next day He took a rest

Download I will Lie down and Sleep in Peace by Steve Green.  It’s a good lullaby and will help in memorizing Psalm 4:8.

Note:

Remember we are laying a foundational belief as we teach our children that God made everything.  If a person does not believe that he was made by God, he then does not have to feel accountable to Him for his actions.

We want our children to realize they God made us; He made us with a purpose; we can trust Him to keep His promises; and He gives us help, peace, and hope when we yield to Him. Meditate on the following verses today and always look for ways to get the thoughts across to your children:

Psalm 121:2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 146:6 He is the one who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He is the one who keeps every promise forever,
Jeremiah 29:11 I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope.

Answers in Genesis is a great resource for studying Creation.  Their mission is to equip Christians to defend the book of Genesis which is the most attacked book of the Bible.

Day Six – God Made Animals and God Made ME

God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals . . . And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. They will be masters over all life—the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals, and small animals.” . . . Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way. This all happened on the sixth day.
Genesis 1:25-26, 31

Bible:

Say: “On the sixth day God made many, many different kinds of animals.  Then God made the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, to help Him take care of all He had made.  This is what the Bible says about that: God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals . . . And God saw that it was good. Then God said, ‘Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. They will be masters over all life—the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals, and small animals.’ . . . Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way. This all happened on the sixth day. God was very happy with what He had created.”

ME:

Get a large piece of cardboard or poster board and trace your child.  You can connect the limbs with brads so it is movable.  Cut it out and let him color it to look like him.  He will enjoy playing with the life size copy of himself. Talk about the fact that he is wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14). You could write this verse on it.

There are several songs and activities at a previous post on my website that will reinforce the idea that God made us special.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for the many interesting animals you made.  Thank you, God, that I am wonderfully made by you.

Songs: Sing the following words to God Made the Whole World by His Hands

God made all the little animals by His hands
He made all the big animals by His hands
Then God specially made ME by His hands
He made the whole world by His hands.

This song is from the Psalty Kids’ Praise Songs back in the 80’s.  My kids grew up listening to them.

If I were a butterfly, I’d thank you Lord for giving me wings
If I were a robin in a tree, I’d thank you Lord that I could sing
If I were a fish in the sea, I’d wiggle my tail and I’d giggle with glee
But I just thank you father for making me, me

For you gave me a heart and you gave me a smile
You gave me Jesus and you made me your child
And I just thank you Father for making me, me

If I were an elephant, I’d thank you Lord by raising my trunk
If I were a kangaroo, You know I’d hop right up to you
If I were an octopus, I’d thank you Lord for my fine looks
But I just thank you Father for making me, me

For you gave me a heart and you gave me a smile
You gave me Jesus and you made me your child
And I just thank you Father for making me, me

If I were a wiggly worm, I’d thank you Lord that I could squirm
If I were a fuzzy wuzzy bear, I’d thank you Lord for my fuzzy, wuzzy hair
If I were a crocodile, I’d thank you Lord for my great smile
But I just thank you Father for making me, me

For you gave me a heart and you gave me a smile
You gave me Jesus and you made me your child
And I just thank you Father for making me, me

God Made the Sun, Moon, and Stars

And God said, “Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. They will be signs to mark off the seasons, the days, and the years . . . For God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, to shine down upon the earth. The greater one, the sun, presides during the day; the lesser one, the moon, presides through the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the heavens to light the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. This all happened on the fourth day.
Genesis 1:14-19

Bible:

Say: “God made the sun for light in the day and the moon and stars for light at night.  God is so powerful all He had to do was speak and they were made.  This is what the Bible tells us: And God said, ‘Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. They will be signs to mark off the seasons, the days, and the years’ . .
